Information, Advice and Guidance Centre

Kingston College has been awarded the national matrix award in recognition of the information, advice and guidance services we offer. We are committed to assisting learners meet their full potential.

Our Information, Advice and Guidance Centre (IAG Centre) offers a client-centred, confidential, impartial and accessible service, delivered by professionally qualified staff. The Centre serves clients of all ages and meets the needs of both our learners and the wider community. All the advice, guidance and help that we offer is available not only to students at Kingston College, but also to the general public.

Our Careers Advisers are available to discuss course, career and employment opportunities and to provide up-to-date and accurate information.

Kingston College holds Open Events throughout the year; at these events, you will have the opportunity to meet tutors from all course areas, student representatives and the Information, Advice and Guidance Team, available to answer any questions you may have.  For details of our next event, please follow this link.

What We Do

Whether you are studying your GCSEs or a Foundation Degree, our Further Education and Higher Education advisers are here to help you with:

  • Career Planning - advice to help you make those vital decisions about steps to take on the road to where you deserve to be. Whether that is guidance on which courses you might take, or alternative for those who want to make a change,we can give you all the help and information you may need.
  • Jobs - whether you are looking for a part-time job to help your finances while you are studying, or a full-time job using your qualifications, we can support you into employment, including helping you with building your c.v. and how to present yourself to future employers, both at initial contact and through to interview stage. We keep a current job list which is updated fortnightly so it is always worth dropping in to find out what is going on.
  • UCAS - when you have made that decision to go on to university, which one? How do you decide? How do the courses compare? There are many questions that need addressing for this crucial stage, and our team are here to point you in the right direction. The advice available covers everything you need to know about Higher education and UCAS  and how to write a good Personal Statement, timelines for applications, and information on University Open Days and HE Fairs. Student Finance - help is available is the form of grants and loans.  This is a tricky path and the IAG team can help you find your way.  Further advice is also available on the DirectGov website.
  • Volunteering and Gap Years - We can help you with opportunities for volunteering within the community. Your interests and activities outside College are an important part of your c.v. - as is work experience. Or maybe you are looking to take a gap year and use the time to volunteer on overseas projects ? We can give you essential advice on planning your gap year, and doing it safely.
