Dr. N. G. Sinnamon
At Kingston there has always been a policy of positive encouragement for students to extend themselves educationally. This is not only reflected in the thousands who have left the College to study for degree but also in the larger number of students who left to make successful careers for themselves immediately in employment.
The emphasis placed on pastoral care ensures that every full-time student gets the best advice and support possible. Weekly meetings with a personal tutor are designed to help students find their feet, make friends and satisfactorily progress with study. Careers guidance, in consultation with parents and teachers during parents' evenings, is aimed at securing the correct choice of degree course or employment opportunity. A support system is also in place for mature students, who may be attending access courses, evening courses, or short courses offering a way back into learning as well as professional development.
Students who attend on a day-release basis from work are particularly welcome at Kingston College, which has a strong commitment to local industry and commerce. These part-time students indeed contribute to the exciting mix of vocational and academic endeavour here, an input that helps to keep our courses relevant and up to date.
