English as a Foreign Language (EFL)

English as a Foreign Language classes are run at a variety of different levels, from Elementary to Advanced or Proficiency. There are currently no classes for complete beginners.

APPLICATION FORMS ARE NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS COURSE.  PLEASE DO NOT APPLY ONLINE. 

Students who already hold a Cambridge Certificate in either PET, FCE, CAE or IELTS are advised to bring their certificate(s) at the time of enrolment if they wish to avoid doing the entrance test.

The next EFL course will start on the 20th September 2010.  Enrolment will be during the week before classes start.  Please come to Room 153 on the first floor of the  College  Kingston Hall Road site,  to take a level test and apply for the course anytime between 9.00am - 3.00pm Monday - Friday.  You do not have to make an appointment. 

Course Duration

Part-time day or evening in 10 week terms starting in September, January and April. 

Daytime classes: 60 hours, three times a week. 

Evening classes: 40 hours, twice a week.

*  NEW for September 2010  *  Conversation and British Culture classes:  20 hours, every Saturday 10am -12pm.

Content

General English is taught at all levels and additionally students are prepared for the Cambridge exams: PET*, FCE*, CAE*, IELTS* and CPE* (when there are sufficient students).  We also offer Business English evening classes.  All courses cover the grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation and also give students the necessary speaking and listening skills practice to enable them to progress to the next level.  Exam courses focus on general English together with the skills required for the exam.

*PET Preliminary English Test Level B1 (CEFR), FCE First Certificate in English Level B2 (CEFR), CAE Certificate in Advanced English Level C1 (CEFR), CPE Certificate of Proficiency in English Level C2 (CEFR), IELTS International English Language Testing System    (Academic English)

Progression

Students normally remain at the same level for two terms. Progression to the next level depends upon success in the end of term exam.  Exceptional students who perform outstandingly in the end of term exams may be allowed to move up after one term.

Fees: Payable on enrolment
Daytime classes:  £390 per term       Evening classes:  £280 per term         Saturday Conversation classes:  £150 per term
Course books and exam fees are not included.  Course books cost £15 - £20
Classes are popular and places are taken quickly.
