
This level 3 qualification in coaching aims to provide practising and potential team leaders and first line managers with the knowledge, skills and confidence to perform effectively as workplace coaches as part fo their usual work role.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements although candidates need to be current and future team leaders and managers. Prior to attending the course, candidates need to meet with their managers to discuss the purpose of the learning and the proposed outcomes, and must ensure they will be able to undertake six hours workplace coaching over the duration of the course.
Duration
The programme is completed over a 10-12 week period and comprises:
• Two full day workshops
• One half-day with the opportunity to undertake some coaching practice
• One half-day facilitated action learning set.
Content
This ILM Level 3 Award is a valuable tool for motivating staff and enhancing performance. It is made up of three mandatory units which introduce key aspects of coaching in the workplace:
• Understanding good practice in workplace coaching: Here, participants assess their own ability to use a variety of interpersonal communication skills when giving effective feedback to learners.
• Organising workplace coaching: here, participants look at the range and value of different learning resources to support safe and effective coaching, alongside practical skills in how to monitor and record progress.
• In the final unit, participants plan and organise workplace coaching sessions, undertake coaching and then monitor and review their own workplace coaching performance.
After the training, you will be asked to discuss the values and outcomes of the training with your manager, and plan the implementation of actions to further improve your coaching performance.
Assessment
The Award is assessed by submitting a 1500-2000 word work-based assignment plus a reflective coaching diary.
