This two year, full time course in photography covers a wide range of specialist areas and disciplines, from traditional photographic processes to digital photography. The course allows learners to gain an understanding of both traditional and contemporary practice and will give students the opportunity to appreciate the work of other artists, photographers and designers.
Entry Requirements
The minimum requirements are four GCSEs at grade C or above, or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design. A portfolio of art and design work is needed for your interview, which should demonstrate an awareness and enthusiasm for photography. Prior learning or experience can be accredited. A successful interview and satisfactory reference are required.
International Entry Requirements: High School Leaving Certificate at C grade or above or other related comparable qualifications. Portfolio of work, satisfactory reference. IELTS 5.0 or an equivalent English Language Certificate

Content
An introduction to photography and related areas including communication through art and design, photographic studio, location and darkroom principles and practice using traditional film and digital technology, as well as digital and graphic applications and contextual influences. As well as traditional photographic processes using film cameras and wet processing, the course also includes digital photography using digital capture, studio practice, editing and manipulation techniques. The course is unit based: each unit has a credit vlaue and assessments are made throughout the course. Additional support through the tutorial system is provided.
Progression
The 180 credit BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Photography is an ideal route for students looking for places at universities and colleges and careers in photography. It provides a wide base of skills in all areas providing entry into other design areas. Alternatively, you could expect to be employed at junior level in a related job. You will have access to a range of career and further/higher education opportunities. Students progress onto specialist courses at Degree, Higher National Diploma, or Foundation Degree Level: you will be advised and supported in your UCAS applications with help on appropriate routes and portfolio preparation.
Additional Information
While some materials and equipment are provided, you will be expected to pay for most of your own equipment and materials, much of which are avilable form the College Shop. There will also be a number of trips and visits throughout the course which will incur some costs. You will need to have a film SLR camera.
