BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering

Due to the recent increase in demand for both professional engineers and aircraft engineers in particular, Kingston College is now offering this course as a pathway into the aerospace industry. On completing the course successful students will be eligible to either progress on to higher education programmes or apply for industry apprenticeship schemes in the civil and military sectors to train as licensed aircraft engineers.

Entry Requirements

GCSE grade B in Mathematics or Science and three other GCSEs at a minimum of grade C including English Language. Satisfactory references, attendance record and interview.

International Entry Requirements:

High School Leaving Certificate at C grade or above (including Mathematics and Science).  Satisfactory reference, telephone interview where necessary. IELTS 5.0 or an English Language equivalent certificate

Course Duration

Two years, full time

Content

Theory of Flight; Avionic Systems; Gas Turbines; Human Factors; Electrical and Electronic Principles; Aircraft Structures; Mechanical Principles; Properties and Applications of Engineering Materials; Communications for Technicians; Mathematics for Technicians; Health, Safety and Risk Assessment; Engineering Project; Business Systems for Technicians; Computer Aided Draughting; Further Mathematics for Technicians.

There will be a mixture of coursework, practical exercises and time constraint assessments. A double rated individual project is included as part of the overall assessment.

Progression

Employment in the aerospace industry as a trainee engineering technician, entry to a Foundation Degree in Aircraft Engineering to become a licensed aircraft engineer, entry to a Degree/HND in Aerospace Engineering, join the UK Armed Forces to train as an aircraft systems/weapons technician.
