The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is intended to provide students with the necessary academic skills required for progression to university or entry to the motor industry. Please note that this is not the same as an IMI Level 3.
The academic skills you gain from the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma will be reinforced with an excellent understanding of how vehicle systems are designed, constructed, maintained and repaired. This knowledge is often missing when university applicants have chosen an A level route and will give you an advantage if you choose to study engineering at a higher level. This course is suitable for learners with high aspirations and expectations. The majority of applications are from school leavers who want a course that will give them the best foundation knowledge for becoming a degree qualified engineer. Other applications are received from A level students who consider a course with slightly more technical content appropriate for progrression to university. Other learners join the course from diverse backgrounds.
Entry Requirements
GCSE grade B in Mathematics or Science and three other GCSEs at grade C to include English. Satisfactory references and attendance above 94%. An interview is also required.
International Entry Requirements
High School Leaving Certificate at C grade or above (including Mathematics and Science at Grade B), satisfactory reference. IELTS 5.0 or an English Language equivalent certificate.
Course Duration
Two years, full-time - approximately 17 hours per week. Students will be expected to undertake a considerable amount of private study outside of College hours.
