
Travel and Tourism covers a wide range of employment opportunities in the fastest growing industry in the UK. It includes jobs in airlines and hotels, with tour operators and travel agents or involving tourist attractions, conferences and events, hospitality and entertainment. Gaining a qualification in Travel and Tourism at this level can lead to higher education which should lead to higher paid jobs.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C (including English Language) or BTEC Level 2 at Merit Grade plus Functional Skills English and Maths. In some circumstances we will accept you if your experience indicates that you will benefit from the course.
International Entry Requirements: High School Leaving Certificate at grade C or above or comparable qualification. IELTS 5.0 or equivalent English Language Certificate. Satisfactory reference.

Two years, full time (September start)
Content
The course provides you with an excellent grounding in the skills and knowledge needed for a career in any of the areas listed below. Over the two years you will study a range of different units. This may include:
- Investigating travel and tourism
- The UK as a destination
- Customer service in travel and tourism
- Longhaul travel destinations
- Conferences and events
- Roles and responsibilities of holiday representatives
- The appeal and importance of UK visitor attractions
- The cruise industry
You will also undertake a minimum two week work placement and have the opportunity to take part in both a UK and an overseas residential visit. Due to extensive links with resorts and overseas companies, work experience has previously been arranged in the Algarve Portugal. This course is equivalent to two A Levels and students will be awarded a qualification grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Students may also study a range of additional qualifications (subject to meeting certain criteria). This could include:
- NCFE Certificate for Resort Representatives (leading to an interview with Thomas Cook)
- NCFE Certificate for Airline Cabin Crew (leading to an interview with BMI British Midland)
Progression
Many students choose to use their qualifications to go straight into employment; others choose to continue their studies at university. This course will equip students with the necessary skills to succeed at higher education and can study at either HNC/D or BA level (depending on the final grade). The College have excellent links with major universities including London South Bank University and Buckinghamshire University, and organise regular taster days/activities. Furthermore, students can use this course to study a HNC/D in Tourism Management at Kingston College.
Additional Information
Please note that our programme includes day and residential trips. A materials charge of £259 applies in year 1 and £104 in year 2 (2011/12 figures). In addition an overseas residential trip in year 2 will be arranged at a cost of approximately £400. For your industry qualifications (Cabin Crew & Resort Reps) you are required to wear a uniform of black trousers/skirt, black shoes, Kingston College polo shirt or white shirt
