This is a practical course which equips students with a threshold licence to teach.
Twelve week course delivered in a range of formats including:
- Practical, individual and group exercises
- Individual research for assignments
- Use of Moodle VLE – our web-based virtual learning resource
- Independent study
Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for
- Those who would like an introduction to teaching or training in the Lifelong Learning Sector (LLS)
- Unqualified teachers already employed in the Lifelong Learning Sector
- Technicians and support staff in further or adult education
Entry Requirements
Literacy at Level 3 or above – there will be an initial written assessment prior to a place being offered on the course.
Course Duration
Twelve weeks part time, evenings - this course is usually held on Tuesday evenings - 6.00pm until 9.00pm. We will announce the next start date when we have sufficient numbers to host the course, and in the meantime we continue to accept applications.
The first session will include course induction and an initial written assessment.
Content
Units covered include:
- What is teaching and how we learn
- Roles of a teacher/trainer
- Lesson planning and assessing learning
Some aspects are covered by a blended learning approach.
Assessment
Assessment is made by:
- A total of six short assignments and a weekly reflective journal
- One 30 minute microteaching session – peer, teacher and self assessed
