This course offers the opportunity to gain advanced hairdressing techniques to help provide further career progression.
Level 3 is a high level qualification expanding on the basic hairdressing skills of Level 2. It is aimed at junior stylists and technicians. Working in a salon for a minimum of one day a week is an essential requirement to stay on the course.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have completed NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing. All applicants will be interviewed to judge their suitability for enrolment on to the programme and require a satisfactory reference. Good IT skills are essential, as is access to a computer and internet from home. To gain a place on this course a skills audit will be performed to ensure candidates have a suitable skill level.
International Entry Requirements: High School Leaving Certificate and previous experience of hairdressing. IELTS 5.0 or equivalent as well as a satisfactory reference and telephone interview. It is essential that applicants should be working in a salon for a minimum of one day a week.
Course Duration
April and September 2012 start dates. One year - three days in College and one day working in a salon each week.

To achieve the Hairdressing Level 3 NVQ you are expected to complete 58 credits from the list below:
Mandatory Units:
Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
Promote additional products or services to clients
Provide hairdressing consultation services
Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
plus five of the following Optional Units, only one of which may be chosen from group 2 below. All five optional units can be chosen from group 1 if desired.
Group 1:
Colour hair using a variety of techniques
Provide colour correction services
Creatively style and dress hair
Creatively dress long hair
Develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills
Create a variety of permed effects
Provide creative hair extension services
Group 2:
Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business
Support client service improvements
Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities
Progression
Specialist hairstylist at home and abroad, educator for manufacturers, assessor or lecturer, specialist within the industry, NVQ Level 4 Technical Salon Manager.
Additional Information
A programme of assessment is carried out during practical sessions, supplemented with online testing. Evidence will be shown in the form of an e-portfolio. Owning an iPod would be an advantage but is not essential.
