This is a dedicated Access to Nursing and Social Work course.
The Access course is a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification which is validated by the awarding body OCNLR (The Open College Network London Region).
Entry Requirements
Although no formal entry requirements are stipulated, all prospective candidates are required to attend a group interview. You will then have the opportunity to find out more about the course and ask questions. This is followed by a screening test, which assesses literacy and numeracy. Candidates need to demonstrate literacy at Level 2. A satisfactory reference is also required. A minimum of one year's experience of full or part time employment since leaving full time education is required. Experience in a related vocational area will support your application to higher education on completion of the Access Diploma. This course requires a maturity of approach and a high level of commitment.
International Entry Requirements: High School Leaving Certificate at grade C or above, to include Mathematics or Science, or other related comparable qualifications. Satisfactory reference, telephone interview where necessary, IELTS 5.0 or an English Language equivalent certificate.
Course Duration
One year, part time.
Content
The core subjects for both nursing and social work are study skills which include English and Mathematics (GCSE equivalents). Turtorial support is also embedded into the programme. In addition, you will study subjects relevant to your chosen pathway. Those taking the nursing pathway will study health sciences, whilst those taking the social work pathway will study social work theory and practice.
Progression
Students who successfully achieve the Access Diploma are then eligible to apply for the Diploma or Degree in Nursing or the Degree in Social Work. Other Degree courses in professions related to health and social care may also be applied for.
