BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care

A Diploma is a practical, work-related course. Your assignments are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start a career.

This qualification is equivalent to two A Levels, which means that when you have finished the course you may choose to go into full-time employment or higher education.

Entry Requirements

This is a Level 3 course. You will need a Level 2 Diploma in a related subject at Merit or Distinction, or a Pass on the Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Health and Social Care, or at least four GCSEs at grades A*-C.  Entry will also be subject to satisfactory references, interview and where requested, screening.

International Entry Requirements:High School Leaving Certificate at C grade or above (including Mathematics or Science) or other related comparable qualifications. Satisfactory reference, telephone interview where necessary. IELTS 5.0 or an English Language equivalent certificate

Students study a number of units including:
• Developing effective communication in Health and Social Care
• Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care
• Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care
• Development through the Life Stages
• Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care
• Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care
• Sociological Perspectives for Health and Social Care
• Psychological Perspectives for Health and Social Care

Progression

Employers and Higher Education institutions value BTEC Diplomas. If you go straight into employment you could work and train in hospitals, nursing homes and health centres. If you decide to go into higher education you could take a Degree or a BTEC Higher National in subjects such as Managing Health and Care Services, Social Policy and Health Studies.

Kingston College also has a progression agreement with Kingston University, London South Bank University and the University of Greenwich which offers clear information and support when applying to these institutions to study nursing. 

Additional Information

This is a full-time course. Students under 19 do not pay tuition fees. There is a small departmental charge for all students. Candidates will be required to undergo a police check before starting the course.
