National Diploma in Music

Drummer

This course is for students who perform as musicians and are looking to further their musical studies and experiences in a variety of ways. It offers students the opportunity to gain a wide range of musical skills including

  • Performance
  • Music Theory
  • Composition
  • Music Production (Recording and Sequencing)
  • Music Business

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade C or above or First Diploma (Merit or above) or equivalent music grades in your specialist instrument, together with successful interview and satisfactory reference.

 As this is a performance related practical music course, you will be required to supply your own instrument. At interview you will demonstrate your skills through a formal audition.

International Entry Requirements:

English Language Level IELTS 5.0 or an equivalent English Language Certificate. High School Leaving Certificate at C grade and above or other related comparable qualifications. Satisfactory reference,

Course Duration

2 years, full time

Content

All Music Practice students have the opportunity to perform at a variety of venues in and around Kingston, incorporating a selection of musical styles and various ensembles.  Students can use technology in the College's Recording Studios and MIDI sequencing room. 

All assessment is made through on-going assignments.

To complete and pass the course students must pass a total of 18 modules, practical and coursework assignments

. These include:

  • Listening Skills
  • Music and Society
  • Composition
  • Midi Sequencing
  • Functional Keyboard Skills
  • The Sound and Music Industry
  • Performance Techniques
  • Sound Recording/MIDI Sequencing

Progression

Many students completing the course gain University entrance to study at degree level in music-related areas. It is expected also that some students would progress directly into a career in the music industry.

Additional Information

Students have the opportunity to work in our BigHead Studio complex as part of their study.
