English as a Foreign Language (EFL)

English as a Foreign Language classes are run at a variety of different levels, from Elementary to Advanced or Proficiency. There are currently no classes for complete beginners.  Please see details and timetable of courses offered in the document download box to the right of this page.

EFL courses for the Summer Term 2012 start week beginning 23rd April 2012 and we still have some places available.  If you are interested in starting a course now please come along to Anstee House and we can arrange this for you.  If you apply online, please bring your reference number with you.  The process will take approximately 1.5 hours and will include the following:-

  1. English Testing - please come between the times below:-

    Tuesdays - 14:00 - 16:30 or Fridays - 09:30 - 11:30

    Please note, no testing will take place on Friday 18th May 2012 - the final testing session will take place on 1st June 2012

  2. Your test will be marked and you will be offered a class suitable for your level

  3. You will be enrolled into a class and you will need to pay for the course

  4. You will be given the date of your first class and details of the course book you will need to purchase at a book store.

Content

General English is taught at all levels and students are prepared for the Cambridge exams: PET*, FCE*, CAE*, IELTS* and CPE* (when there are sufficient students).  All courses cover the grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation and give students the necessary speaking and listening skills practice to enable them to progress to the next level.  Exam courses focus on general English together with the skills required for the exam.

  • Conversation and British Culture Classes
  • Pearson Test of Academic English
  • Bespoke courses for Industry
  • One-to-One tuition

*PET Preliminary English Test Level B1 (CEFR), FCE First Certificate in English Level B2 (CEFR), CAE Certificate in Advanced English Level C1 (CEFR), CPE Certificate of Proficiency in English Level C2 (CEFR), IELTS International English Language Testing System (Academic English).

Progression

Students normally remain at the same level for two terms. Progression to the next level depends upon success in the end of term exam.  Exceptional students who perform outstandingly in the end of term exams may be allowed to move up after one term.

Additional Information

Full fees are payable on enrolment either by cash, cheque or card.  No concessions are available.  Fees are non refundable and places on courses are non transferrable.  

• Daytime classes:  £390 per term (60 hours tuition);
• Evening classes:  £280 per term (40 hours tuition);     
• Friday Conversation classes:  £160 per term (20 hours tuition);
• Course books and exam fees are not included.  Course books cost £15-£20.

Classes are popular and places are taken quickly.  Minimum age for this course is 16. years.
