National Diploma in Music Technology

This course is for students who wish to pursue production based careers within the music industry. 

It offers students the opportunity to gain a wide range of experience in a variety of musical activities based around Music Production and its related topics.

Entry Requirements

Our team of specialist and friendly course tutors interview every applicant for this course individually. the entry requirements are:

  •  4  GCSES or equivalent at Grade C or above.
  •  CD of recent music production or industry related experience (which demonstates an awarenesss and enthusiasm for the subject)

If you have singing or instrumental skills that is a useful bonus, but it is important to have a musical aptitude and experience in the relevant technology.  Successful interview and satisfactory reference are required.

International Entry Requirements:

High School Leaving Certificate C grade or above or other related comparable qualifications. Satisfactory reference. IELTS 5.0 or equivalent certificate

Course Duration

2 years, full time

Content

Utilising the College's Industry Standard Music Recording Studios and Music Sequencing equipment, students learn how to use both Analogue and Digital recording equipment and how to create and produce music using a variety of music software programs.

Students learn about the business aspects of the music industry and more general music skills such as listening skills and basic music keyboard skills. All assessment is made through on-going coursework assignments.

To complete and pass the course, students must pass a total of eighteen modules. These include:

  • The Sound and Music Industry
  • Music  Sequencing
  • Sound Recording Techniques
  • Studio Production
  • Audio Engineering
  • Listening Skills for Musicians
  • The Functional Music Keyboard
  • Sound Creation and Manipulation
  • Music and Sounds for Multimedia
  • Music Technology in Performance
  • Music and Society

Progression

Many students completing the course gain University entrance to study at degree level in music-related areas. It is expected also that some students progress directly into a career in the music industry.

Additional Information

Students have the opportunity to work in our BigHead Studio complex as part of their study.
