All applicants must be working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing or have prior hairdressing experience.
Course Duration
One evening a week – held on a Wednesday evening 6.30pm-9.30pm – for 15 weeks. Commences in March 2012, please contact us for exact start dates.
Content
The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Barbering is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in the creative art of cutting men’s hair, the specialist work of cutting facial hair and hwo to offer a good consultation service for clients. Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety whilst working in the barbering industry.
The aim of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational avility to enable you to perform your own salon services.
Assessment
Candidates are assessed on four external candidates and the evidence is shown in a portfolio. There is a multiple choice exam paper which is taken alongside assessment.
Progression
When you have successfully completed this qualification you will have the opportunity to progress onto a range of specialist hair qualifications which include:
• Level 3 Award in the Art of Dressing Hair
• Level 2 Unit Credit in Barbering
• Level 2 Certificate in Fashion/Photographic Make-up and Dressing Hair.
This qualification may lead directly into employment in the hair industry as a junior stylist in a salon or self-employment as a hairdresser or barber.

Estimate cost of this course: £800 plus kit (approximately £200)
Please note, there are no concessions available for this course. Kit must be purchased before starting the course. All students will be expected to be a willing model during practice sessions and provide external models where possible for their practical assessments.
