
Travel and Tourism covers a wide range of employment opportunities in the fastest growing industry in the UK. It includes jobs in airlines and hotels, with tour operators and travel agents or involving tourist attractions, conferences and events, hospitality and entertainment. This type of work can offer exciting careers to those who like meeting people, want more than a routine job and are interested in travel. This one year course is aimed at providing students with the vital skills needed to enter employment within the industry.
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs passes at grade C (including English Language and Maths) or a BTEC Level 2 at Merit Grade plus Functional Skills Level 2 English and Maths. In some circumstances we will accept you if your experience indicates that you will benefit from the course. A satisfactory reference, (to include a good attendance record) is also required.
International Entry Requirements: High School Leaving Certificate at grade C or above or comparable qualification. IELTS 5.0 or equivalent English Language Certificate. Satisfactory reference.

Content
The course provides you with an excellent grounding in the skills and knowledge needed for a career in any of the areas listed above. Over the year, you will study a range of different units, all aimed at equipping you with the vital skills that employers are searching for. This may include:
- Investigating Travel and Tourism
- The UK as a Destination
- Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
- Longhaul Travel Destinations
- The Business of Travel and Tourism
- Preparing for Employment in Travel and Tourism
You will also have the opportunity to take part in a UK residential visit and become involved in employment opportunities with Springboard UK. A three week work placement is mandatory and takes place in June/July. The BTEC is equivalent to one A Level and students will be awarded a qualification grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction.

- NCFE Award in Resort Representatives (leading to an interview with Thomas Cook)

Progression
Many learners choose to use their qualifications to go straight into employment and we are fortunate that there is a wide range of local employers in tour operating, airlines, hotels and event management. We keep in touch with a large number of our former learners and most are now in exciting, stimulating jobs both in the UK and around the world. All staff members have extensive experience within the industry and use this to guide students into the right career. Tutorials will focus on preparing and supporting learners for employment in the industry.
Additional Information
A charge of £259 applies to cover the cost of trips and resources including a polo shirt, file, plastic wallets, USB. Learners will be required to wear a uniform when in college to prepare them for a world of employment (black trousers/skirt, black shoes and a white shirt or Kingston College polo shirt). Kingston College have wonderful links with a wide range of travel and tourism companies and incorporate this into lessons.
