OCR Level 2 Certificate in Sport

The OCR Level 2 Certificate in Sport is a one year programme which deals with the scientific themes and concepts of sport. The course aims to provide studies in sport which are directly related to the changing needs of employers in specific areas of the sport and recreation industry. Students will also develop critical skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership to support their progression into employment or the next level of study. Practical sessions will take place in the colleges well equipment, industry standard gym and sports hall facilities.

Students can retake English or Maths at GCSE alongside this course if needed. The course may lead to a higher qualification in sport or progression directly into the industry. Most students progress onto the BTEC L3 Sport Coaching or Sport and Exercise Science course.

    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

    4 x GCSE's at D/3 or above, or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject.

    Your GCSE profile must include either maths and / or English , or a Functional Skills qualification in maths and / or English.

    This course provides learners with an excellent grounding in the skills and knowledge needed for a career in the sports coaching industry or progression to the next level. The units covered may include: Practical sports performance Psychology of Sport Planning and Leading Anatomy and Physiology for sports performance Sports Nutrition Work Experience

  • Progression Next Steps


    BTEC Level 3 in Sport Coaching or Sport and Exercise Science (subject to meeting the entry criteria which includes achievement of the Level 2 in Sport at Merit grade). Career paths may include Assistant Gym Instructor, Community Sports Coaching, Assistant Sports Development Officer and Recreation Assistant.
