The GCSE re-sit facility at Kingston College provides local students with a second chance of sitting their GCSE exams and provides an opportunity for continued education.
This year’s cohort had sat English at their schools in the summer of 2009 and achieved a D grade or less. Subsequently, they embarked on an intensive seven week course at Kingston College in a bid to improve their skills. Of the 29 students who sat the exam, 21 achieved a C grade or higher, which has given the college a solid C grade success rate of 72%. The national benchmark for colleges is 47%.
Student Krsytal Greenland said: “I was really disappointed that I didn’t pass my English in the summer as I thought that it would mean that I couldn’t continue with my studies, but Kingston College helped me re-sit and achieve a grade C so that I can now do A-Levels.”
Scott Peasey, Head of School (General Education: Foundation and Intermediate Studies) said: “With the commitment of staff and the students, this year’s group managed to up their grades and achieve excellent results."
