Two Kingston College IT students are going head to head in a public vote to have their label design selected for a new premium Avocado Oil. The students are finalists in a competition sponsored by Kingston health food store, Food for Thought, who are launching the oil as part of their successful Bon Pom range.

Second year students studying for a National Certificate and National Diploma for IT Practitioners were briefed by Alan Martin, Owner of Food for Thought, to design a label that reflected the superior quality of the Bon Pom range. Alan commented: “I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this project and I was absolutely delighted by everyone’s efforts and the high standard of the work.”

The two finalists Adam Di Libero and Romy Jain will work with London based design agency, 7 Gods, to adapt their designs to go onto the bottles. These will then go on sale in the Kingston branch of Food for Thought. An in store promotion will enable customers to vote for their favourite design and the one with the most votes will go into production when the Avacodo Oil is launched.

Romy, 18, says: “Throughout the project I enhanced my skills in the various manipulation software used to create the graphical products. This will be an impressive and different aptitude which I will be able to include on my CV and university application. I am greatly anticipating working with a professional designer as this will give me an insight into the professional world of design. Having this opportunity is likely to open many doors and there is also the possibility of creating other graphical images to match my potential product which would give a whole new face to the brand name Bonpom.”

Course Leader Andrew Williams commented: “This is an incredible opportunity for our students. The two finalists are very talented and the competition has encouraged them both to work even harder. I initially approached Alan Martin at ‘Food for Thought’ because I wanted to have the involvement of a local community business. I also saw the involvement of Alan’s company as a way to make the assignments students were set interesting, relevant and as demanding as any they might meet in the real world. I love the idea of the public voting on the winning design but I have to say that all those who took part are winners and have done Kingston College proud.”
