Field visit to the Big Apple

Students love New York
Description: Students love New York

Students from the College’s School of Performing Arts travelled to the cosmopolitan city of New York earlier this month. The 60 students were given a brief to explore the energetic city’s rich performing arts history. They engaged in workshops ranging from Stage Combat to dance at the world famous Alvin Ailey American Dance company.  They experienced the razzle dazzle of a top Broadway musical as well as some more off-beat fringe theatre that New York has to offer.

The overseas trips have always been an integral part of the Performing Arts experience at Kingston College. They have evolved and grown over the years and are vital in helping students develop their knowledge and understanding of the rich history of the performing arts.

Jessie Gambell-Dixon, a second year National Diploma in Performing Arts (Performance) student, commented. 'It was a really great experience going to New York. The workshops were interesting and engaging and were with industry professionals, which was brilliant. I loved that the teachers treated us like adults and that we had the freedom to explore the city, I really felt like they trusted us.”

Trip organiser and First Diploma Course Leader, Paul Morrison, said. “The trip was very successful, the students were really great ambassadors for Kingston College and we are all really proud of them. The flight steward even commented that they were the nicest student group they had ever had! All the students reacted with enthusiasm to the workshops and there was positive feedback all round. Ellen's dinner on the last night was a lively affair that really brought us all together!”
