On Tuesday 31 January, Hairdressing and Beauty students provided a stunning Dreams and Nightmares Showcase to a packed out ACT Theatre.
The VTCT Level 3 Make-Up Artistry students, Advanced Modern Hairdressing Apprentices and BTEC Level 3 Dance students created wonderfully original representations illustrating their make-up and hair skills to showcase the ‘Dreams and Nightmares’ theme.
Attending Employers were introduced to the exciting new range of hair and beauty courses the Arena is offering and an enlightening film preview on the students’ preparation for the show, which provided a glimpse into just how much skill and commitment had been necessary to produce the ‘finished article’.
The students portrayed a broad spectrum of looks depicting a varied interpretation of the Dreams and Nightmares theme, in truly magnificent avant garde styles, which was choreographed to music by the talented dance models. The overall standard of the work was exceptionally high.
John Mullan, owner of Stone Hair salon in Kingston, stepped up to the podium to give an inspiring career talk to students. He enthused: “The show was absolutely inspirational. The students’ effort was commendable. I have been sending my Apprentices to Kingston College for 15 years and have always been impressed at the genuine care the Tutors have for all their students.”
The competition was compered by Heads of Arena Hairdressing and Beauty Schools, Eireann Brooks and Alison Smales who commented: “Our students have really risen to the challenge set for them by their Tutors: Lisa Charles, Helen Whelan and Phaedra Petsilas. They have demonstrated extraordinary dedication in their preparation for this showcase and have achieved exceptional standards of work. We are exceedingly proud of them and their work has brought credit to the efforts of students and staff alike.”
