Staines Town FC begin registrations for Academy players

An induction day for new and retained Academy students was held at Kingston College on Wednesday 6 June 2012, at which 52 players completed their registration forms for Staines Town FC for the coming season. In attendance was new First Team Manager, Marcus Gayle, who took the opportunity to meet with the players he hopes will become the club’s stars of the future, and to say a few words to emphasise the great opportunity they have earned – and to urge them to grasp it with both hands by being positive, committed and disciplined in their outlook, both on and off the field.

With The Swans getting this procedure done so early, it is quite likely that they will once again be the first club to have registered any players, and as such can expect to receive registration number 1 for the second successive year. If this should be the case, the honour will probably fall to a new recruit to the STFC / Kingston College Academy, Kelvin Agyeman-Botchey, whose name is alphabetically first.  In fact, he was also the first of the new recruits to arrive, having allowed extra time because he was unfortunately on crutches, having injured his ankle in his final game of last season while playing for Enfield.

Kelvin, a right-sided defender / midfielder who will not turn 16 until the eve of the season, was at his home-town club Brentford as a youngster, and more recently had a spell with Feltham FC.

Martyn Spong, Mark Fabian and their fellow coaches have been conducting trials for coveted places at the Academy since January, and in fact the process is only being completed this week owing to one of the trials being cancelled though inclement weather.

Kingston College is holding its last Open Day, for September 2012 entry, on Friday 29 June, 11am to 2pm. Register your attendance at www.kingston-college.ac.uk or call 020 8546 2151.
