Students from our Hospitality & Catering Academy gained valuable work experience by hosting a food and drinks reception held at the American Embassy, in the presence of the American Ambassador and 180 VIP invited guests. First and second year students had just 90 minutes to prepare a bar, finalise a service agreement with the client and familiarise themselves with complex canapés.

The event took place in December and it’s the second time that our students have carried out a reception for the Embassy, who have been very impressed with their professionalism. It provides a fantastic opportunity for students to engage in high quality catering offsite.

Steve Cannell, Deputy Head of Commercial, Creative & Professional Studies, said: “We’re really grateful for the American Embassy for enabling our students to attend and host such VIP events. They will each receive an individual letter of thanks from the Ambassador, which I know they treasure. It is fantastic evidence of their skills development.”
